“I’m not religious, but I am a Jew (yeah, yeah, ‘that doesn’t make sense!’ - it does - I’ll write a blog on it. But if you’re impatient, just ask almost any Jew what I mean).”

😂🤦‍♂️...#metoo

I’m Jewish, my wife is Christian, and the other day she asked

Wife: “do you ever consider becoming a Christian?”

Me: “No, not really. I like to practice benign neglect of my traditional religion, from my parents, that literally has no centralized authority and never changes its message or how it is delivered; regardless of how much I roll my eyes”

Wife: “remember that time you came to my church? Didn’t you like that? Our pastor is so young and cool, and the band is great don’t you think”

Me: 🙄

My Jewish friends have explained to me the Jewish not religious concept. It helped me understand the Jewish Atheist joke: We don't believe in God, but we know He led us out of Egypt.

Looking forward to reading your contributions to the debate.

(Btw I'm a Protestant Atheist)

Hi Max, we share a similar backstory. I have a PhD from Cambridge in literature & lit theory, so I had to become quite an expert in all the Marxist poststructuralist BS that’s dogged education since the 70s & has by now filtered into mainstream western culture. (Have you read James Lindsay’s _The Marxification of Education_ btw? I highly recommend.)

My ‘community’ - British & American literary avant gardes - explicitly picked a side after 7/10. And / or were too stupid / brainwashed / invested to switch sides. And it has left me disgusted.

I share your concerns about the twin evils of our time & look forward to reading more of your posts.

I think you are sane, rational and informed.....a rare thing. We deplore the same things, it seems. As a long time elderly professional environmentalist, I find the retreat from reason and science to be dangerous and deplorable, and at the root of all the various conflicts in the world. This wokeness and ID are a secular religion or cult that celebrates ignorance and promotes irrationality and

fanatic ideologies. I believe that ignorance of evolution, human history and survival strategies is one of the roots of this intellectual crisis. The right wing may be less dumb but more exploitive and

opportunistic. The left, originally hostile to Darwin, boasts of not believing in any kind of biological

constraints or destiny, putting humans the place of god as well as biology and human behavior.

I doubt there is a cure in any meaningful time period. Meanwhile we need to cooperate, communicate and challenge the crazies and loonies at every step. None of this has anything to do with racism or any other prejudice. It s a crisis of the human brain and society.

I like your jaunty style, good English and also by the way your politics! interesting background.

By the way, I was an amateur pianist and my late husband Eric was a composer. I'd be curious about your musical tastes...and when I use the word"music", I mean classical (real) music. Otherwise I was a shameless radical, i.e. environmentalist with Friends of the Earth for many years, besides other jobs...including the US Green Party (choke) ...tried for their presidential nomination in 2004....debacle and shambles cheating. I wore a button saying "Shameless Agitator". Still am though electronic instead of street theater. My daughter Eva is a poet and lived inn London until recently.

Hi Lorna, so glad there is another anti-woke environmentalist on this planet. I sometimes feel like the only one.

The Left seems to have co-opted the climate crisis which can now be safely ignored once again because it’s been put in a box with all their other crazy ideas. Cf Greta Thunberg on Hamas’ side.

Where have the real rationalists gone? The ones who believe in science rather than magical thinking & humanism over communist-Marxism?
