When I was at a private college in the U.S. in the '90s, even then they were pushing this stuff in a slightly more toned down way under different names. We were studying Orientalism and reading Said. I remember getting so mad reading Laura Mulvey's "The Male Gaze" that I could barely finish reading the assigned work. I guess when some other women were relating to it, I was getting infuriated, thinking, "Who is this Laura Mulvey to speak for me to say women have no power? You think women get no pleasure out of our power over men? You think that's not its own power? Speak for yourself." I can attest it's been going on in academia across the pond since at least the early '90s.

Just out of curiosity, how much was the proletariat loving professor making off the backs of said proletariat? I am pretty sure salaries in Cambridge are not too shabby.
